In 1935, the powers met for a second naval conference in London to renegotiate the treaties of Washington and London, before they ended the following year. The Japanese left the conference, but Britain, France and the United States signed an agreement that declared a six-year leave on the construction of large light cruisers of 8,000 to 10,000 tons. This final decision marked the end of decades of controversy around cruisers. Before coming into force early next year, the agreement must be approved by Parliament in both countries. He is expected in Japan next week, as the ruling party controls both houses of parliament. Britain and Japan have officially signed a trade deal that marks the UK`s first major deal after Brexit. Lord Elgin was sent in 1858 by Queen Victoria to negotiate the trade agreement and used the delivery of the yacht as a pretext for discussions. This led, in 1858, to the Anglo-Japanese Treaty on Convenience and Trade, which allowed the introduction of foreign concessions, extraterritoriality for foreigners and minimum import taxes for foreign goods. The Japanese got confused under the “unequal contractual system” that characterized Asian and Western relations during this period. The Anglo-Japanese Friendship Treaty was followed by similar agreements with the Russians (Treaty of Shimoda, February 7, 1855). Along with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, Truss called the landmark agreement the first major trade agreement for Britain, once again becoming an independent trading nation.
The Anglo-Japanese Friendship Treaty (Japanese: Hepburn: Nichi-Ei Washin Jayaku, The Anglo Japanese Convention of 1854) was the first treaty between Great Britain and the Empire of Japan, then under the management of the Tokugawa Shogun. The Kanagawa Convention on a similar agreement between Japan and the United States was signed on October 18, 1854, ending Japan`s 220-year-old policy of national isolation (sakoku). As a result of the contract, the ports of Nagasaki and Hakodate were opened to British ships, and Britain was granted the status of the most privileged nation with other Western powers. In the short term, the Japanese were satisfied with the agreement, which did not make concessions to the Americans that had not already been granted to the Americans and which, at least temporarily, prevented the possibility of an immediate military confrontation.
